JANET NEWMAN: One of the good things about coming to an office like this is that we do pre- and post-operative care, pre- and post-procedural care, because we have the good skin care lines that you can only get at the doctor's office, and that means that they're more effective. The things that you get at the department store, if you buy them over the counter, you really are not getting a good follow-up care with it, so they're not as effective as they are if you can buy them through a doctor's office. They're just not as effective. So if you buy them through a doctor, they've got more ingredients and more active ingredients that you can get. So that's one of the questions people are always asking me: Why should I buy it here and not there? So we can follow you up so if you do have a problem with it, because they're often a little bit more active than they are, then we can tell you, oh, you need to lay off this, you need to put more of that, and you can do this and that. So what we do is we really follow you up on your skin care. And it can make a big difference in your skin.

The biggest challenge for all of us in the world of dermatology is finding products that are not just hype but actually are proven. And there's a long way to go in getting testing up to date with our hype, and so hopefully we'll be able to help patients navigate through the hype and get to the point where they can make some good choices about skin care products.
