DR. WILLIAM HEIMER: Spider veins and varicose veins are one of the most common procedures that we do in this clinic. They're also one of the things that probably bother people more than anyone ever talks about, and it's because it inhibits people from wearing shorts and wearing a bathing suit and doing things that they enjoy doing because they're worried that someone might see a blue spot or a large vein on the leg. And it is very, very gratifying to be able to offer this state of the art treatment for treating both of these things.

For spider veins we found great success with glycerin and also with Sotradecol foam. Both of those things are a major advance in recent years, and when done properly and done carefully in our patients, we've found fantastic results. Generally anywhere from one to three treatments are needed to clear most legs, some might need more, but a lot of patients get fantastic clearance in just a very small number of treatments.

The other thing that we're really excited about is the cool touch intravenous laser. The cool touch intravenous laser allows us in an outpatient setting with very minimal downtime, maybe a day or two, and in fact the patient actually gets up and walks out, we're able to close very large varicose veins that go all the way up into the groin area and all the way down in the leg, usually about an hour a leg. The patient has no pain because it's done under - - anesthesia, they're wide awake. There's no anesthesia risk whatsoever. And with the CTEV, the Cool Touch Intravenous Laser, we have the technology which has proven in multiple studies to be the very best type of technology for closing those veins. Minimal chance of scarring and minimal chance of causing any problems with disfigurement in the skin, unlike other treatments that have been done in the past with very frequency and other wavelengths. With this wavelength we've hit the jackpot with making leg veins much, much better.
