DR. WILLIAM HEIMER: CoolLipo is really cool. It was just approved in 2008 and it's FDA approved for both the reduction of fat, by making the fat melt, and also for tightening the skin at the same time. And the unique part of this treatment is that we can place it under the skin, completely painlessly to the patient under what's called tumescent anesthesia, while they're wide awake, and while we place this particular probe under the skin, the wave length of light melts the fat selectively and also puts enough thermal energy into the skin to tighten the skin. So the areas that we see the greatest benefit for this particular treatment is the area underneath the chin, where you might have a little extra pooch of fat there, or the entire neck line, so to get a much tighter neckline, we see this treatment just doing great things for us. It allows us to have this wonderful result that we get from all these other procedures on the face to be extended down into the most difficult areas to treat on the neck.

One of the other areas we find that CoolLipo works really well is spot treatment behind the arms and areas that sag there. Also spot treatment on the belly or on the love handles. Generally speaking, the CoolLipo works the best when you have ideal body weight and you just have a problematic area that you really want to target, and it's an amazing treatment.

So often times we combine the CoolLipo treatment with a treatment called VelaSmooth, and VelaSmooth is also a very revolutionary treatment. It can be a stand-alone treatment without doing CoolLipo, but also is a nice edge for people who have problematic or hard to treat areas. It basically allows us to put three different modalities of energy into the skin that will help the skin to tighten and for the areas of cellulite or irregular dimpling of the skin, to literally flatten out. That's done generally over about 12 to 16 treatments a couple times a week, and most patients, after their first treatment, have no problem coming back because it's so relaxing, it makes everything feel so good and patients love the results.
